In case you don’t know it, the Tony Romo era is pretty much over for the Dallas Cowboys. Ever since Romo’s back injury in mid-August, the door became wide open for Dak Prescott to step up and boy, did he – the rookie has taken the NFL by storm. The four-time Pro Bowler may be impressed with Prescott’s talent but he’s not ready to call it quits just yet. However with his hefty contract and a scheduled salary cap hit of $24.7 million in 2017, along with very little to no opportunities left in Dallas, it’s crystal clear that Romo will be making a change in 2017.

Take a look at the most likely clubs Tony Romo will be suiting up for in 2017, according to Vegas. Some of these we never saw coming.

You Won’t Believe Where Vegas Thinks Tony Romo Will Play in 2017

Arizona Cardinals

We’re kicking off this list with the one and only, Arizona Cardinals. Yes, we know, they still have Carson Palmer but come on, the 2002 Heisman Trophy winner’s performance has been on a decline for some time now. Romo would have an opportunity to play for a Super Bowl roster littered with offensive talent while the Cardinals would get a serious upgrade.

Chicago Bears

The signs all point to the Bears looking to move on from Jay Cutler. Chicago could try their hand with veteran Brian Hoyer and are also likely to add a young QB early in the 2017 NFL Draft. Avoiding their personnel issues, Romo has strong ties to the area, he grew up in Wisconsin and even attended Eastern Illinois University so it could be a match made in heaven.

Denver Broncos

It’s no surprise that the 2016 season didn’t go exactly as the Denver Broncos would have hoped. After having won their third (!) Super Bowl title last February, the Broncos have struggled havily on offense and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2010. While they have two young quarterbacks, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch, who have the potential to get them where they want to go, the defense General Manager John Elway may not have time to let them develop. Actually it’s safe to say that the Broncos would be preparing for a playoff game right now if they had Romo on their side.

Cleveland Browns

*Ahem, say what now?* First of all, the Cleveland Browns finished their 2016 season with a measly 1-15 overall record, and were widely considered to be one of the worst teams in NFL history. So while they might be highly committed to rebuilding their roster through the NFL draft, we can’t picture Romo finishing his career playing for a team in complete disarray. Then again, stranger things have happened.

Houston Texans

You’re probably thinking it so we’ll go ahead and say it, the Texans made one of the most disastrous free agent signings in NFL history when they spent buckets of money on Brock Osweiler last off-season. With that being said, if the Texans can come up with the salary cap space to bring in Romo, he would certainly turn them into legitimate AFC contenders in 2017.

Los Angeles Rams

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Jared Goff is the future head Rams’ quarterback who will go on to shatter records and make a real name for himself. Although if you look at what we saw out of the number 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft during his rookie season, you know that Goff still needs more time to fully develop. The addition of Romo would certainly give the Rams a proven veteran who can teach their prized pupil how to be successful in the NFL, while giving them a more competitive edge in 2017.

Minnesota Vikings

First things first, the Vikings do have one of the better defenses in the league, while their offensive issues are particularly lacking (especially at the quarterback position). We all know that Sam Bradford didn’t really work out as the Vikings have hoped therefore getting Romo as the head QB would be an extraordinary win. The only predicament is that Minnesota need some serious cash to clear up the salary cap for Romo.

New York Jets

Tony Romo sporting a hunter green and white jersey has a certain ring to it. The Jets have a solid defense and incredible offensive weapons in place, the addition of Romo would only intensify their standing as one of the greats. Plus, they desperately need a new QB. Sadly the only drawback is that of New York’s salary cap limitations.

Kansas City Chiefs

Now we’re talking, this move for Romo would be very intriguing. The Chiefs already have a solid QB in Alex Smith but Smith really doesn’t have the same class or skill that Romo does. If the Chiefs signed Romo to the club, they would instantly become Super Bowl contenders. The only drawback, Kansas City has some serious adjustments to make in order for the salary cap to work.

Buffalo Bills

Two things are for sure – Tyrod Taylor has done an incredible job this season, and the Bills’ passing game remains rather limited. Taylor should very well be the team’s long-term QB, yet his unique contract does allow for the team to go elsewhere if they want. The ownership group and coaching staff desperately want to win and if the end of this season shouldn’t work out in their favor then Romo could be their best shot.

San Francisco 49ers

It is not an easy picture of Romo in San Francisco’s fast-paced offense under the great coach Chip Kelly. Plus we’re pretty sure that Romo wouldn’t want to go to a team that is more than a year away from winning. Then ga

Philadelphia Eagles

It’s no secret that the Eagles need a corner and receiver as soon as possible but they also need a reliable QB. Earlier in the season, quarterback Carson Wentz was greatly seen as the promised child but sadly that didn’t come to fruition. While it seems like a junior QB would be the Eagles best bet, the addition of Romo would be an incredible achievement.

Washington Redskins

Sadly, it has to be said but Kirk Cousins is an average NFL quarterback who has struggled immensely this year. With Cousins at the wheel, the team’s ceiling can only be so high. The GM Scott McCloughan did selecte an offensive lineman (Brandon Scherff) and a wide receiver (Josh Doctson) in the first round over the past two years, but is lacking the QB needed to lead the offense to an elite level. The wit and strength of Romo could be what they need to charge forward.

Miami Dolphins

It could happen, you never know but Miami might choose to move on from Ryan Tannehill, and if they add Romo while they draft and develop a QB of the future. Besides Romo would be cheaper than Tannehill so that makes a lot of sense. Matt Moore would also provide great coverage if Romo got hurt.

New England Patriots

I know what you’re thinking, the Patriots have Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo but remember that even though Tom Brady is, at 39 years, the oldest non kicker/punter in the NFL, it appears that the Patriots have said they will take offers on backup Garoppolo when the offseason begins. Could a trade happen? Could the impossible happen and Garoppolo gets bought and Romo comes in? You just never know.

New Orleans Saints

Well contract talks with Drew Brees haven’t really gone anywhere to this point. Plus given Brees’ unique impact on this franchise and as many QBs haven’t accomplished about 20 percent of Brees mega-deals, he could end up being rather successful on the open market should it come to that.

Cincinnati Bengals

Why yes, the real money in Andy Dalton’s contract has been paid so the year-to-year basic now begs the questions about him, and coach Marvin Lewis, in the postseason remain. Plus the performance of the young backup AJ McCarron has turned a few heads. Then there’s the fact that Dalton’s deal is so manageable as it’s signed through 2020 with no cap numbers over $17.7 million, which yes does mean that he probably isn’t going anywhere. However, it also makes for a very tradable contract if they ever want to go in that direction (teams have been probing around on McCarron already this offseason).

Jacksonville Jaguars

Not so many people know whether or not the Jaguars’ next head coach will remain committed to the former UCF signal caller. Romo would certainly offer the Jaguars a steady, firm veteran presence as QB as they currently have a young and talented roster. However the Jags can’t offer Romo much in return. It’s really not a move we can envision for the QB star.

Detroit Lions

It is rather apparent that the quarterback position isn’t one that the Lions need to put much effort into, but that doesn’t mean it will be ignored altogether. GM Bob Quinn said that it’s just good football business to draft a quarterback every season. They did pick up a young Jake Rudock (out of Michigan) in the late rounds last year, but it wouldn’t be so far fetched to see them chasing after another QB.

New York Giants

The Eli Manning era will in fact continue in 2017, however it’s time to find his heir apparent. He’s approaching 40 and is losing some of superior, quick play. It’s often rare that players even go until the age of 40, and while he has been exceptional, New York finds itself approaching the end of an era. Right now it’s only fair for the Giants to draft a player to groom and develop behind him, somelike say Tony Romo?

Baltimore Ravens

There’s no doubt that the Ravens are committed to Joe Flacco as their starting QB going into next season, but they do have their eyes open for a new backup. If they were to add a late-round quarterback to mesh with what they currently have, both sides win.

Tennessee Titans

It’s quite clear that the Titans need a wide receiver but as their franchise quarterback is recovering from a fractured fibula this offseason then it could be time to bring in a good backup. Their QB did have an incredible year, they could do good with a new addition.

Dallas Cowboys

Yeah, we know, this seems way too crazy to be true but the folks Vegas are a pretty darn good judge of character. Vegas strongly believe that Romo will be on the Cowboys’ roster for Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season. We really don’t see the point considering Romo is scheduled to count $24.7 million against the 2017 cap, including his base salary of $14 million. Yes, we know that money isn’t everything but those figures are pretty hard to contest with.
