16 Major Athletes With Less Famous Professional Siblings!

Published on 11/26/2017

You can make the case that professional sports rules the entertainment world. People are always watching, betting, or playing sports and more are dreaming of going pro at some point in their lives. However, it isn’t easy to go pro because it requires opportunity, hard work, and genetics all meeting together. Today we are going to look at 16 professional stars who had siblings that made it to that next level! Hmm, we guess genetics does have a lot to do with it.

Horace and Harvey Grant

If you are even a slight NBA fan then you know who Horace Grant is. Grant played for the Chicago Bulls alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen during the mid 90s. Horace Grant was a great player and is well known yet his brother, Harvey, isn’t even acknowledge. Harvey Grant played in the NBA for 10 years with a streak of three years averaging more than 18 PPG for the Washington Wizards. We doubt either pro is having trouble with bad credit car loans — they made some serious cash.

Jose and Ozzie Canseco

Jose Canseco is probably the most polarizing player in professional baseball history. He was a big slugger during the steroid era and a notable loud mouth off of the field. Jose’s twin brother, Ozzie Canseco, also made it to the Big Leagues though in a much more diminished fashion. Ozzie would only play 24 games through three seasons of MLB action. We’re not sure either Ozzie or Jose are doing well enough to afford decent car loans online — their finances are rumored to be pretty rough.

Julius and Thomas Jones

When your last name is ‘Jones’ it is probably easy to hide the fact that you have a brother in the pros. Thomas Jones was one of the better running backs in the NFL during his tenure in the league. Thomas Jones would rack up over 10,500 yards in his career. Julius Jones was less successful but he still managed to last for 7 years, retiring in 2010. We doubt either retired pro has trouble keeping their home cleaning service bills paid.

Reggie and Cheryl Miller

This is one instance where both siblings are famous but nobody realizes that they are related to one another. Reggie Miller is a Hall of Fame NBA player while Cheryl Miller was one of the most dominant female players in college history. Her professional career would be cut short by a vicious knee injury. Still, the Miller siblings won’t have trouble paying their maid services.

Jackie and Mack Robinson

The name Jackie Robinson probably rings a bell if you know your sporting and civil rights history. Jackie Robinson was an incredible ballplayer who is revered for breaking the color barrier. Mack Robinson, Jackie’s brother, was just as gifted though less remembered. Mack’s career peaked in the 1936 Berlin Olympics when he won an Olympic medal.

Jason and Jeremy Giambi

Lots of baseball brothers out there, eh? Jason Giambi was another big slugger in the steroid era. He spent much of his time playing for the Yankees, culminating and a 2000 AL MVP. Jeremy Giambi, Jason’s brother, played for six years but he never quite hit his stride, eventually falling out of the MLB.

Leon and Michael Spinks

The boxing world has its fair share of famous siblings and we can’t leave out the Spinks brother. Leon Spinks was one of the few fighters to actually beat Muhammad Ali in a title fight. Michael Spinks is one of the most respected fighters in the history of the sport. Still, most people remember the Spinks brothers for losing high profile fights against Ali (rematch for Leon) and young Tyson.

Vernon and Vontae Davis

Vernon Davis was an elite tight end for years with the San Francisco 49ers. Vontae Davis spent the bulk of his career as a shutdown corner with the Indianapolis Colts. Both players are still competing in the NFL. You’d never know they were related due to their size disparity: Vernon is 6’3 while Vontae is 5’11.

Champ and Boss Bailey

Champ Bailey is one of the most respected cornerbacks to ever play in the NFL. Still, most people don’t realize that Champ had a professional brother — Boss Bailey. Boss Bailey played for five years in the NFL with his best year coming as a rookie by landing on the 2003 All Rookie Team for the Detroit Lions.

Mark and Dan McGwire

Mark McGwire is a controversial figure in the MLB thanks to his admitted PED use and HUGE swing. Though Mark is well known in the baseball world his brother Dan didn’t reach that same notoriety in the NFL. Dan McGwire was a first round draft pick in the NFL but he was out of the league in less than a handful of years.

Michael and Ralf Schumacher

Michael Schumacher is one of the biggest names in Formula-1 Racing history with a grand total of 7 World Championships to his name. Ralf Schumacher, the ‘other’ Schumacher, was also an F1 pro. Ralf raced for 10 years, racking up six career wins. It’s tough being the brother of an all time great, isn’t it?

Steph and Seth Curry

Steph Curry is the best point guard in the NBA and the best shooter that the game has ever seen. Seth Curry is Steph’s younger brother and he has thus far been a career back up in the big leagues. Both Curry’s inherited some great basketball genes from the former NBA pro and their father, Dell Curry.

Michael and Marcus Vick

Michael Vick is one of the most controversial athletes of all time thanks to his imprisonment for dog fight. Marcus, Michael’s younger brother, was another young NFL player who watched his potential drain away due to off field issues. Marcus was kicked off of Virginia Tech for his numerous issues. Marcus would end up playing one game in his NFL career back in 2006 for the Miami Dolphins. Marcus would never touch the ball in the NFL.

Hank and Tommie Aaron

Hank Aaron is MLB royalty and, at one point, the leader in MLB history in home runs. Tommie Aaron, on the other hand, could barely keep himself in the league. Hank and Tommie were famously the first brothers to appear in a League Championship series while on the same roster. Tommie would hit 13 home runs in his career while Hank would hit 755.

Pedro and Ramon Ramirez

More baseball royalty coming through! Pedro Martinez scored three Al Cy Young wins in his career while also helping to bring Boston to the promised land. Pedro is a sure thing for the Hall of Fame while his brother, Ramon Ramirez, probably won’t make it there. Still, Ramon Martinez was a steady pro with 135 career wins and an All Star appearance to his name. Ramon and Pedro even shared rotations on the same team several times in their career — for Boston as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Rob, Dan and Chris Gronkowski

The Gronkowski’s are the party boys of the NFL and true professional royalty. Rob Gronkowski is probably the best tight end to ever play the game and he is still in his prime for the New England Patriots. Brothers Dan and Chris also played in the NFL for a period of time. Dan was a tight end from ’09 to ’11 while Chris played the fullback position for a couple of years. Though Chris and Dan are already out of the league it was still impressive that the entire trio made it to the shining lights of the NFL’s big stage to begin with.
