Landon took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart. If he hadn’t reacted in time, he would have plunged straight into the ravine at full speed. Shaking off the shock, he carefully shifted into reverse, easing his jeep backward. His hands were still unsteady, but there was no time to dwell on it—he had to keep going. The sun was creeping lower in the sky, and with each passing minute, he was losing precious daylight.

Landon resumed his search, this time driving slower, his eyes scanning every detail of the landscape. He needed something—anything—that looked familiar. His pulse quickened when, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a clearing. His instincts kicked in, and he slammed the brake before swiftly making a U-turn. His grip tightened on the wheel as he stared ahead. “This has to be it,” he muttered to himself, conviction growing in his voice. “It just has to be.”
