A very special baby, Gabe.
Now, Gabe was abandoned by his parents and taken into the care of a hospital. His face was very lovely and he gave birth to a healthy baby during the examination. However, this baby looked decidedly different from ordinary babies. What was different about him? The baby had a disease called Hanhardt’s Syndrome and was born without arms and legs. This rare disease, which affects 1 in 20,000 children, is usually characterized by malformations of the jaw and tongue, and the partial absence of fingers and toes.

What made Gabe’s case special, however, was that not only were his fingers missing, but his legs and arms were missing as well. And for Gabe, this disease would severely handicap him for the rest of his life. What a harsh fate! Not only was he abandoned, but he was born with a severe disability. The doctor who examined him was filled with pity for Gabe, and the nurse had tears in her eyes. However, Gabe’s cry was so cheerful and bright that it blew the air out of his mind.
