Star Jet Roller Coaster

Location: Seaside Heights, New Jersey
Year: 2002
Cost: $2 million*

After being completed in 2002 at Seaside Heights, New Jersey, Star Jet delighted tourists and locals. Before Hurricane Sandy, the 52-foot structure on Casino Pier was a hit. The 2012 hurricane pushed part of the pier into the ocean. Star Jet fell into the Atlantic. Incredible, it kept much of its shape. Fans were heartbroken when it was demolished in 2013 and rebuilt by Hydrus in 2017. Makers observed Star Jet before creating Hydrus. Instead of rebuilding Star Jet, they moved it from the pier to the beach to better withstand storms.

The ancient Mayans have always attracted archaeologists, who are obsessed with new and old artifacts. Disney’s National Geographic has aired several documentaries on it. The Mayan Ancient City of Tikal in Guatemala may be the most intriguing. The capital, one of the largest sites of its kind, was likely a great kingdom. By the Late Classic Period, it had stopped growing and its population had declined, ultimately destroying it by the 10th century. Thankfully, much evidence has been left so historians can try to imagine life in the culture. Although much is unknown, these historic cities offer a glimpse into another period.
