One of the firefighters who rescued the puppies, Mark Jenkins, gave the doctors his phone number for updates about the puppies after they were dropped off. Surprisingly, shortly after, he got a call from the doctors.

The vet reassured Mark immediately that the puppies were okay. The doctor told the fireman that they had done a good thing when the puppies were brought to the vet. However, Mark did get a startling bit of information from the veterinarian that caused the firefighter almost to laugh out loud.
